Special Education Instructional Assistant

Instructional aides (IA’s) for Special Education are in demand in San Diego County. IA’s deliver direct services to students and assist teachers with educational programs and services.  Becoming an IA makes you a “para-educator” and can lead to advanced careers as an educator. This class will teach you the terminology, strategies, and theories in special education including: a brief history of special education, understanding the IEP, curriculum strategies, behavioral strategies and the 13 disability categories.

Taking this course does not guarantee a job with the Poway Unified School District (PUSD). However, New Instructional Aides (IA’s) who are hired by PUSD within a certain time frame may qualify for tuition reimbursement of this course once they are hired. Current PUSD IA’s are encouraged to see their PSEA member resources reimbursement specifications.
