Please see the Fall catalog for information regarding the Winter 2027 course!
Poway Adult School offers an 18-week comprehensive Medical Billing and Coding course, designed to prepare adult learners for a rewarding career in the fast-growing field of healthcare administration. The course covers foundational topics such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as healthcare laws, ethics, and HIPAA compliance. Through hands-on practice, real-world case studies, and simulated billing exercises, students will learn to code diagnoses and procedures, complete insurance claim forms, and use medical billing software. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, attention to detail, and professionalism in a healthcare setting.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be well-prepared to pursue entry-level positions in medical offices, hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies, or to continue on to certification exams such as the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS).
